Chevrolet to introduce Beat Activ and Essentia soon

American car maker General Motors (GM) has confirmed that they are planning to launch the Chevrolet Beat Activ and Chevrolet Essentia compact sedan under the Chevrolet brand in the Indian car market. GM had revealed the Beat Activ and the Essentia as concept cars at the Auto Expo in 2016 and a welcoming positive response from the Indian car lovers seems to have led the company to think of giving a go ahead signal for these models.

“There was an overwhelming response from our Indian stakeholders to the Beat Activ when we had unveiled it at the Auto Expo in Delhi. As a soft-roader, this car is great fChevrolet Essentiaor any adventure or challenge, while its interior makes sure that the driver remains comfortable and connected. The next exciting wave of Chevrolet products to hit the Indian car market soon will include a spirited lineup – the new Beat, Essentia and Beat Activ,” said Kaher Kazem, the president and managing director of GM India, in a public statement.

 

The Beat Essentia is a hatch back model that is based on the next generation of the Beat hatchback platform, while the Beat Activ is a spruced up version of the hatchback. GM has to say that both of these cars have been specifically designed at the GM Korea Design Studio keeping in mind the tastes of the Indian consumers without compromising on the global appeal. The Beat Essentia sedan is going to come with the 1.2 litre STEC II engine that is expected to generate an output of 77bhp and 107Nm peak torque, while the diesel engine is the 1.0L XSDE unit that is capable of delivering 56 bhp and 142.5 Nm of torque.

The Beat Activ concept model comes with a pseudo SUV appearance, which is expected to be the most affordably priced crossover model when launched. The Beat Activ flaunts LED fixtures in its head lights and fog lamps and plastic cladding in black. The concept car was showcased at the Auto Expo with a 7 inch MyLink infotainment system and an instrument cluster which is inspired by the design on a motorbike.

General Motors has also reportedly said that last year, in 2015, the company had exported 21,000 Chevrolet cars to 40 countries, including Chile and Mexico and this year, they are expecting an extra 50,000 units to be exported.
