Hyundai Creta vs. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross

Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are two of the most reliable and favoured brands in the Indian car market. Both of the car makers have a very strong foot hold in India with their wide range of cars which are intended for every segment and targeted for all the various sections of the car enthusiasts. The compact SUV segment in India has been experiencing rapid growth during recent times. The latest entrants of the segment, namely the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, have also formed quite a stir among people, though the S-Cross is technically a crossover model. Hyundai says that 33,000 units of the Creta have been booked till date while Maruti Suzuki claims the S-Cross has clocked 6,500 bookings ever since the lines were opened for the crossover booking.

Hyundai Creta

The Hyundai Creta comes with a wheelbase of 2590mm, and an overall length of 4270 mm, width of 1780 mm, length of 1630 mm and ground clearance of 201mm, making it quite a large vehicle with ample space. The Indian Car of the Year, Hyundai Creta, is available in the market with three engine variants – a 1.6 litre dual VTVT petrol engine, a 1.4 litre U2 CRDi diesel engine and a 1.6 litre CRDi diesel engine. The 1.6 litre, 4 cylinder Dual VTVT petrol engine delivers a maximum of 124 bhp @6400rpm and 154Nm @4850rpm of maximum torque. The 1.4 litre U2 CRDi diesel engine generates output of 89 bhp @4000rpm and peak torque of 224Nm @1500rpm, while the 1.6 litre CRDi diesel engine offers a highest of 126 bhp @4000rpm and torque of 265Nm @1900rpm. Hyundai is offering two transmission options, a six speed manual and a six speed automatic.

In terms of price, the Hyundai Creta  price (Delhi) starts at 10.19 lakh while Hyundai Creta TCO is estimated to be around 10.78 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki-S-Cross

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is an elegant looking car with crossover proportions which are smart, and also adds a touch of premium character. Talking about its dimensions, the wheel base of the S-Cross is about 2,600 mm making it marginally higher than that of the Creta. So the S-Cross also offers plenty of space for the occupants on the inside. Moving on to their ground clearance, since the Hyundai Creta is an SUV, it gets a tad greater ground clearance than the Maruti S-Cross which is a crossover model. The S-Cross comes with two diesel variants – the 1.3 litre DDiS, and the 1.6 litre DDiS diesel engines, giving a miss to the petrol motor, and choice of transmission options for the S-Cross is a 5-speed manual, and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross TCO is estimated to be around 7.95 lakh while Maruti Suzuki S-Cross on road price starts with 9.82 lakh.
