THE ERA OF BROOM-ANCE !

“It is our social responsibility as citizens of India to help fulfill Gandhiji’s vision of Clean India, by his 150th birth anniversary in 2019.I am seeing that Gandhi is looking through these specs that whether we have made India clean or not, what we have done and what we have not done. Devote 100 hours every year towards the cause of cleanliness. Cleaning up the country cannot be the sole responsibility of sweepers. Do citizens have no role in this? We have to change this mindset.”
-Narendra Modi
Prime Minister of India

Implying that “Swachh Bharat” mission is “beyond politics” and inspired by “patriotism”, he recourse Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a “clean and developed” India as he formally kicked off the five-year-long campaign,. Challenging criticism that his government has been taking credit for every achievement, the prime minister acknowledged the efforts of all previous governments to make India clean.
Modi seems to reflect the sentiments of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who once said: ‘‘The day every one of us gets a toilet to use, I shall know that our country has reached the pinnacle of progress.” His descendants, however, did not perceive the things in same light. As a result, “India is drowning in its own excreta!”

Administering a pledge to people to make India clean, Modi said that this task is not the responsibility only of “safai karamcharis” or the government but of all the 125 crore Indians. He also said that the campaign should not be seen as a mere publicity stunt
The Prime Minister said that he is aware that the criticism of this programme will begin in just a few days but said he is prepared for this transmitting confidence that the his fellow countrymen will not let him down.

Expressing confidence that the nation can achieve the target of becoming one of cleanest in the world, the Prime Minister lingered over the success of the Mars Orbiter Mission. “If people of India can reach Mars with minimal expenditure, why can they not keep their streets and colonies clean,” he said asking people to take up the responsibility to make the mission a success.
It seems that India is waking up. Modi’s government is touching all those segments of life which were important but had been ignored for so long. Indians pay a lot of attention to personal hygiene but carry an thoroughly different attitude when comes to cleanliness of their surroundings, Many of us do not falter to litter on roads. Garbage is generally thrown outside the dustbin than inside. Indians still pee and defecate in open.

India is a rapidly growing country. The greater the growth, the greater the garbage. Modi is a showman, and a very nice one at that. He knows the right notes to play and the correct moment to play them. So far, it’s been working out for him.
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is powerful in its unpretentiousness, and troublesome for the same reason. The absence of entanglement in the presentation of the campaign, and the deep-rooted rebuttal between Modi’s consumerist growth agenda and Swachh Bharat’s objectives goads my dubiousness and raises many questions: Which parts of India will be cleaned, which not and why not? The speech that Narendra Modi administered to school children and the public servants alike reminds them of their patriotic duty by cleaning up. “Ab hamara kartavya hain ki gandagi ko dhoor karke Bharat Mata ki sewa karein.” Where will the dirt be removed to, is left unsaid. Everything does not have to be spelled out.

Is this really going to work out??? What do you think people?
