Maruti Alto 800 – Research by AutoPortal

Meet the largest selling car – Alto 800

Which is the most common and obvious recommendation If you are planning to buy your first ever car? That would be the Maruti Alto. This car is what has made Maruti Suzuki today in the Indian car market. For the last 6 years this car has been the undisputed largest selling car.

Meet the most trusted car

Maruti Alto has stayed in this position without any major up gradations. Sensing a need of change, after a successful run for twelve years, Maruti decided to introduce a fresh design. In 2013, Maruti made a splash with the introduction of the Alto 800.  The new Alto 800 comes with a few changes that make it different from the existing model.

The car with the appealing exterior

The new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 looks more appealing than the previous generation – the most noticeable changes are at the front. The new headlamps are now angular and are well-integrated with the edgy bumpers. The black grill is another obvious change and looks catchy with its sharp lines. The trendy spoiler merges into the wheel arches. The radiator grill is small and carries the logo. The car sports an aerodynamic look from the front. The side profile does accentuate its similarity with the older Alto as it is based on the same platform. Apart from the shoulder line and noticeable wheel arches, there is nothing much to talk about. The 12” wheels sit a bit oddly under the car and do not complement the compact design of the car. The rear of the car is not as soothing as the front. It has clear lens tail lamps and its boot gate and C pillar are identical to its elder sibling, A Star. The rear bumper has nice lines running on it which is probably the best thing that one may like.

The car with the stylish interiors

The interiors feel a bit old school and practical and despite the quality of materials and design being improved it does not match up to the Eon, its closest competitor. The Alto 800’s cabin is standard. The higher end models have power steering and power windows, climate control, audio system and central door locking. The front seats lack under thigh support and the leg room in the rear is not enough for anyone above average height.

Under the hood

The Alto 800 has a three-cylinder, 796 cc engine that produces 47 bhp @ 6000 rpm, mated to a five-speed gear box. The Alto 800 returns a mileage of 22.7 km to the litre. The new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 has also introduced an improved CNG version.

The car with the reasonable price

The Maruti Alto 800 has kept its price at Rs. 2.37 to Rs. 3.49 lakh.
