Will the upcoming Maruti Ignis set markets on fire?

Maruti Ignis

The production ready model of the Maruti Ignis will look mostly like its concept model that had made its debut in India at the Delhi Auto Expo in 2016.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis is the mini crossover car from India’s most trusted and favoured car brand that made its entry in India at the Delhi Auto Expo in February 2016. It will be released during the festive season in this year. The company has started with the testing phase of this car on the Indian roads. Already on sale in Japan, this mini crossover car is being expected to cost between INR 5 lakh to INR 7 lakh (ex-showroom) In India, though there are no reports regarding its India pricing as of now.  Similar to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the Ignis will also be manufactured in India with a high level of localization. The company also has plans to export the Ignis to several overseas markets. To be placed below the S-Cross, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be sold at the company’s premium Nexa dealerships.

The overall dimensions of the car are 3,700mm length, 1660mm width and 1,595mm height with a wheel base of 2,438mm. The ground clearance offered is around 180mm. Ignis also offers impressive boot space of around 258 litres which is extendable up to 415 litres and can easily accommodate 5 adult passengers. The Maruti Ignis is built on Suzuki’s all new platform, and is claimed to be much lighter and stronger than the other Maruti cars. It also has got the same platform that is used to build the Maruti Suzuki Baleno premium hatchback model.

Maruti Suzuki has claimed that the Ignis has SUV traits with the ideal combination of latest technology, uniqueness and innovation. And with the same engines as the Swift and Dzire, the Ignis is expected to be quite a light vehicle. It will come with two engine options – a 1.2-litre VVT Petrol engine that delivers 84bhp @ 6,000rpm and 115Nm @ 4,000rpm peak torque, and the 1.3-litre, DDiS Diesel engine that generates 73.9bhp @ 4,000rpm and 190Nm @ 2,000rpm torque. Transmission options include CVT and AMT. While the petrol mill is expected to return over 20 kmpl mileage, the diesel model is likely return around 26 kmpl. This will make the Maruti Suzuki Ignis TCO (total cost of ownership) quite low indeed.
